A Seychelles private island, Denis Island, has been presented with the Environmental Sustainability Award at this year’s Seychelles Business Awards.
Luxury island retreat Denis Island has this week been announced as the winner of the prestigious Environmental Sustainability Award at the Seychelles Business Awards 2013, beating off fierce competition from the likes of L’Archipel Hotel, Seychelles Breweries and the Ephelia Resort.
Deemed to have exhibited a high level of environmental awareness throughout 2013, Denis Private Island was crowned overall winner by the Seychelles Business Awards 2013 in a lavish ceremony which took place on Saturday, December 7th 2013.
The island’s Communication Manager, Nicole St. Ange, was delighted to receive the accolade on behalf of the team, viewing the prize as a reward for all of the hard work the Denis Private Island have directed into the environmental work over the past year.
St. Ange went on to issue the following statement: “The management of the island prides itself in remaining good custodians of what they have been blessed with. Denis Private Island remains an eco-friendly property that has adopted a philosophy of sustainable integration with this pristine environment, ensuring the natural splendor remains for generations to come.”
Located towards the north of the Seychelles Archipelago, this chic Seychellois private island has long since been active in the field of sustainable tourism, and will be seen as a deserving winner across the travel branch, thanks to the resort’s concerted efforts to go green and to preserve the island’s biodiversity for the benefit of future generations.
Amongst the many initiatives in place to ensure the resort’s sustainability include an organic farm, located at the island’s northern tip. Providing almost enough fresh ingredients to completely stock the island’s kitchen, the farm’s products include milk, eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and even some meat products (chicken and pork).
Other environmental initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting the rich biodiversity of the Seychelles islands include working to ensure the reef flats remain in place, the rehabilitation of large tracts of forest and the responsible introduction of endemic bird species, including the Seychelles fody, the magpie robin, the paradise flycatcher and the Seychelles warble.
A harmony of stunning natural surroundings, island hospitality and a unique Seychellois flair, Denis Private Island is the very epitome of sustainable island tourism.
