As a stunning line-up of Irish beauties gets down and dirty in a private island adventure camp, we meet the Miss Ireland contestants swapping glamour and photo shoots for hiking boots.
- The contestants of Ireland’s most popular beauty pageant were taken well and truly out of their comfort zones as they embarked on a private island retreat with a difference
- Twenty-two Irish beauties ended up swapping photo shoots for hiking boots as they embarked on a private island boot camp on Ireland’s Adventure Island
- The three-day stay offered the finalists the perfect chance to get to know each other as they competed in activities such as laser tag, archery, kayaking and obstacle courses
Private Island Retreat with a Difference
When people think of beauty pageants, thoughts usually turn to swimsuit competitions, colourful sashes and cringe-worthy question and answer sessions. For the contestants of the Republic of Ireland’s “Miss Ireland” competition, however, there was a swift departure from the typical glitz and glamour of the catwalk, as all 22 of them embarked on a private island retreat with a difference.
Boot-Camp on Ireland’s Adventure Island
Thoughts of swaying palms and powder-white beaches were soon cast away from the contestants’ minds as the twenty-two Irish beauties arrived on Ireland’s Collanmore Island. Located in Westport, County Mayo, the exclusive island is a rugged retreat loved by adventurers because of the high-octane activities it offers.
Indeed, during their three-day boot-camp, the contestants were able to try out these high-octane activities for themselves, swapping glamour and photo shoots for hiking boots and lazer guns. The girls were well and truly taken out of their comfort zones, and were forced to confront their fears with a heart-stopping high ropes course and a wet and wild water session.
Other adrenaline-pumping activities included laser combat games, laser clay pigeon shooting, archery and a Skyline adventure course through the forest. And that was before the glamour girls took to the open seas in the island’s sea-safari adventure rib. Our hearts are pumping at the thought of it all!
An Experience to Remember
Despite the fear-factor, the hair-raising activities were well worth it, according to the participants. As well as giving the girls a chance to bond with each other, the opportunity to hone their skills in the great outdoors (both on land and at sea) will go a long away to making the girls stand out at the finals, believes Sean Montague, co-owner of the Miss Ireland franchise.
“The trip to Adventure Island, Westport, is one of the most essential components of the whole experience, in my opinion. It shows the beauty inside, and the drive that is hugely important to becoming the future Miss Ireland 2015. Miss Ireland is more than a beauty pageant – it’s the performances in the sports and activities that really make them shine.”
