The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton (32) took a quick break from her royal duties last week– jetting off with her newborn son and heir, Prince George of Cambridge, to enjoy a much-deserved vacation in the Caribbean. Destination of choice was Mustique Island, an elite island hideaway located in the beautiful St. Vincent and the Grenadines region.

Mustique has long since been blessed by a royal seal of approval, with its blue-blooded connection stretching as far back as 1960, when Princess Margaret received a 10 acre plot and permission to build a holiday home on the island as a wedding present from the island’s then owner, Colin Tennant, the 3rd Baron of Glenconner.

Since then, the so-called “celebrity holiday capital of the world” has played host to scores of A-listers, and, with the arrival of Prince George, an incredible three generations of royals. Even Queen Elizabeth II herself has called by for some much needed rest and relaxation on several occasions – perhaps that’s the secret behind her incredible 62-year reign.

More recently, however, it is the royal in-laws who have been taking advantage of the laid-back island lifestyle on Mustique, enjoying several luxury vacations there in the last year alone. Indeed, it was the Middletons who were responsible for this sojourn, too, planning the break as a birthday celebration for Middleton Matriarch, Carole.

In the absence of hubby and future king Prince William (currently taking part in a 10-week agriculture course at the elite University of Cambridge), the Duchess was accompanied to her EUR 23,000-a-week-island abode by her brother, James Middleton, before meeting up with her parents and sister, Pippa, who had all arrived on Mustique earlier that week.

The first images of Prince George’s first ever foreign holiday are already circulating in the British press, showing the smiling princess – fashionable as ever in a casual-chic striped Ralph Lauren top – carrying her beautiful baby boy amongst a backdrop of blue skies and golden sunshine.

After returning to Britain today, a source close to the royals was quoted by the Daily Mirror as follows: “They enjoyed their break immensely but of course they missed having William with them. He will be very glad to have them home, a week away from your baby is a long time and of course he will have missed little George.”

Hopefully next time Daddy will be able to take a break from the books and travel with his little prince!
