Stunning expanses of white beach, turquoise water vistas, and a barefoot-chic island resort – could there be a better place on earth for gorgeous models to show off the latest fashions in swimwear? Sports Illustrated magazine apparently didn’t think so, since they chose Desroches Island, a luxury resort in the Seychelles, for their 2012 Swimsuit Issue photo shoot. The resort is located in the country’s secluded Amirante Islands, and has a pristine, ‘Robinson Crusoe’ character found in few places on earth.

The shoot took place over 15 days in August of 2011, and featured both top models and some new faces, including Chrissy Teigan, Nina Agdal, and Julie Henderson. The photography was done by James Macari, who found no shortage of dreamy backdrops amid Desroches’ white sands, exotic forests, and crystal-clear waters. The eagerly-awaited issue hit the newsstands on February 14th, and was filled with incredible images that will no doubt be pinned on many walls this year.

Of course, hosting a major magazine photo shoot is no easy feat for a resort. Sarah Jensen, the Marketing Manager for Desroches, was quoted as saying that; “For the resort to be able to provide a superior level of service, not just to the Sports Illustrated team, but to all our guests on a daily basis, requires a dedicated, hardworking and talented team. We are very fortunate to have truly excellent, passionate members of staff that all work to the same goal: to make each and every stay at the resort the most memorable for all our guests.”

Desroches has been dubbed one of the “Top 10 Remote Hotels in the World” by Forbes Magazine; located in the Outer Islands and accessible only by plane, the island is a 40-minute flight from the Seychelles’ capital of Mahé. Intimate, secluded villas are scattered around its sandy coast, with much of the island’s 800-odd acres left in a beautifully wild state. Rental rates for Desroches start at €600 per person/day for beachside suite – a small price to experience paradise.
