Indian Ocean: Mozambique’s Vamizi Island Enjoys Lavish Upgrade and New Private Villa

An ultra-exclusive private island paradise off the coast of Mozambique has just completed an impressive upgrade. Vamizi Island is proud to present its latest lavish villa: Tartaruga.

Vamizi, an ultra-exclusive private island holiday destination located in one of Mozambique’s most popular yachting destinations, has this week unveiled its latest lavish villa to the general public, completed as part of a sensational upgrade aimed to further elevate the status of the elite island escape within the crowded Indian Ocean market. This latest addition brings the resort’s total number of residences up to six.

Called Tartaruga (a subtle nod to the island’s abundant marine life population – “taratuga” is Portuguese for tortoise), the new five-bedroom villa is reported to sleep as many as fourteen discerning guests. The villa’s décor continues in the traditional Vamizi design – incorporating elements of the Mozambican style, such as a striking palm thatch roof and pillars of locally collected casuarina driftwood.

The open sides of villa’s main living area lead on to a vast decking area, home to a saltwater swimming pool which meanders into the landscaped gardens and onwards down to the ocean and the property’s private stretch of beach. Adjacent to this living area, guests will find a shaded outdoor gazebo and a further dining area located along the water’s edge. Furthermore, as with the rest of Vamizi’s private villas, Tartaruga is staffed with its own chef and hospitality team meaning you won’t have to lift a finger throughout the duration of your trip.

Vamizi Island

A slender coral island off Mozambique’s remote northern coast, Vamizi Island is an insider’s tip for all those looking for pure seclusion and an excellent diving spot. Vamizi is part of the Maluane conservation project. Through continued donations and a conservation fee charged to every guest, the Maluane Project continues to support marine research, community outreach and direct conservation initiatives. Vamizi Island is set either side of an ocean basin that is extraordinary – with its vast whale, dolphin and turtle populations.

Guests with an appreciation for Mother Nature certainly won’t have cause complain of boredom during their stay here. The island is home to some of the most diverse flora and fauna in the world, with 112 species of birds, Samango monkeys, four species of turtle, giant coconut crabs and the exotically named dugongs. A myriad of trails will take guests through the three acres of coastal forest surrounding the chic island villas, affording you the unique opportunity to get up, close and personal with Vamizi’s wildlife.

Alternatively, guests can take to the seas, embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime guided or solo kayaking adventure through mangroves and shallow reefs or setting sail in one of the island’s spectacular shaded dhows to discover Vamizi’s scores of secluded bays and coves – just perfect for a couple of hours of idyllic privacy and isolation. Alternatively, amphibious travelers are encouraged to anchor off-shore, and explore some of the best snorkelling spots in the Indian Ocean. So what are you waiting for?

Villa Tartaruga is available from May 2015. Booking a stay on Vamizi Island couldn’t be easier than with Vladi Island Travel. Prices start from USD 1,085 per person per night based on two people sharing. Click here for detailed travel information.
