After an intimate October 9th wedding surrounded by select friends and family, newlyweds Sir Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell have jetted off to the Grenadine island of Mustique for an unforgettable honeymoon, according to the British press.  They are reportedly staying in Mick Jagger’s personal residence, a six-bedroom mansion complete with full staff, a tennis court and pool, and a chic Japanese-inspired décor. Jagger’s home, known as Stargroves, typically rents for US $15,000 per week, but it is speculated that for his long-time friends Sir Paul and Nancy, the stay would of course be free of charge.

The pair arrived on the island Friday, after being spotting making a connection through St. Lucia. According to an interview by CTV, Basil Charles, the proprietor of Mustique’s famous Basil’s Bar, said of the island’s new guests; “I’ve not seen Sir Paul yet but he’s been in a few times in the past. Everyone would love to see him and Nancy and raise a glass to the happy couple. I met them in February the last time they were here and they seemed so happy together.”

The couple had, in fact, previously stayed at Jagger’s home, and had spoken fondly of their holiday there. Another islander was quoted in Britain’s Sunday Mirror newspaper as saying of Paul; “He loves the privacy the island offers and there is no better place to spend a honeymoon. Everyone will just leave them to enjoy their special time together.”

For decades, Mustique’s guest list has regularly included many other celebrities, including Kate Moss, Johnny Depp, musicians like Liam Gallagher and David Bowie, and fashion designer Donna Karan, who owns an expertly-decorated villa on the island. Originally transformed from a former plantation into a jet-set retreat in the mid-20th century by British aristocrat Colin Tennant, also known as Lord Glenconner, the island quickly became popular among the world’s wealthy and famous.

Most notably, Princess Margaret fell in love with Mustique’s privacy and tropical beauty, giving it an irresistible royal allure. This has continued to this day, with the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge having holidayed there numerous times, and the parents of Kate Middleton were even rumoured to be considering buying one of the island’s exclusive villas. For rock-and-roll royalty Sir Paul, it will be off to a party with his new wife’s family after the honeymoon, and then back to his busy life of philanthropy with PETA and the Make Poverty History campaign.

A brief note was posted on his website, expressing thanks to all who wished him and Nancy well on their special day. “Nancy and I want to thank everybody for the wonderful greetings and messages of goodwill that we received. We had a really great day with family and friends; it was relaxed, fun, emotional, heartfelt and a total pleasure for the two of us and everyone involved,” wrote Sir Paul. And now, all of his fans and admirers are no doubt wishing him a fantastic honeymoon in paradise, too.
