It’s difficult not to feel relaxed in paradise – an on the exclusive private island of Parrot Cay, relaxation comes very easily indeed. The tropical isle’s 1,000 acres are surrounded by the deep azure seas and exotic coral reefs of the Caribbean, with an ample covering of lush forest and long expanses of sandy beaches. For this Turks and Caicos hideaway, reputation is everything – celebrities like Bruce Willis, Donna Karan, and recently, the Clinton family, have all visited the island’s resort, or even owned one of the secluded villas on Parrot Cay.

As the latest feather in its cap, the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller’s Readers’ Spa Awards from its June 2011 Health and Travel issue has given the spa on Parrot Cay third place in the Atlantic and Caribbean. Out of the 250 spas included on the list, the island’s COMO Shambhala retreat was one of just 10 to receive a perfect score in the various categories; in this case, the spa treatments themselves were considered without flaw by thousands of voters. It was an excellent year for the country on the whole; the top ranking went to another spa in the Turks and Caicos, the Regent Spa, located at the Regent Palms luxury resort.

The COMO Shambhala retreat on the island is a luxurious haven for restoring both body and mind – just a few of the features are yoga and pilates studios, Jacuzzis, vitality pools, and an assortment of skilled consultants on  acupuncture, nutrition, Ayurveda, reflexology, and other disciplines that promote a natural path to health and wellness. And if that’s not enough, the health spa is stunningly designed and opens up to the environment, built with rustic hardwood accented with pure white linens and furniture covers. Imagine being expertly massaged with the soothing chirps of exotic birds and rustling of palms to put you to sleep!

Of course, the spa at Parrot Cay has received many accolades over the years including, others from this publication; in 2004, the COMO retreat was given the honour of the Number One Spa in the World by Condé Nast Traveller, and in 2007, it won the magazine’s annual reader’s choice award for the best spa in the Americas and Caribbean. Topping even those impressive feats, Traveller has also ranked it the second best in the world! A rare combination of beauty and talent, Parrot Cay’s exclusive retreat should take a top spot on any spa enthusiast’s “must visit” list.
